4 Tips to Make The Most of Your Turkey Leftovers
We all love turkey, but after day 3, most of us are ready for nothing more than a big salad! Here’s your guide to not letting any of that great turkey go to waste.
Tip 1: While you are cutting up your aromatics prior to roasting the turkey (onions, carrots, celery, etc) do a little extra of each and place in a container in the fridge. Add a bay leaf, clove or two of garlic, and whole peppercorns to the mix. When dinner is all done and you’re too tired to chop another thing, you can easily just throw this mixture along with your turkey bones and water into a pot to get your homemade stock rolling. Simply cover it all with water, bring to a boil then simmer on low for 2-3 hours. Strain and store!
Tip 2: If you think you won’t eat all the leftovers, bundle up some of the turkey meat into family size portions. For example, think of how much meat you’d need for a stir fry for your family, and put that much into a bag and freeze. You can substitute turkey in place of chicken in a stir fry later in the week, or month for that matter for a different take on turkey dinner.
Tip 3: Switch up the flavours. Add some exciting ingredients to a turkey sandwich that are different than what was on your table. Turkey with brie, arugula, apples, Dijon and mayonnaise would be a great combination on some nice grainy bread.
Tip 4: Try making a Turkey Bubble & Squeak. This recipe has a funny name but it’s a great way to use up a myriad of leftovers.
