Donation Committee Established for High River Disaster Relief Fund
While the June 20 2013 flood brought unprecedented damage and heartache across southern Alberta, it also helped to shine a light on the incredible generosity of Canadians, who volunteered in droves, donated money and sent truckloads of supplies to those in need.
Roughly $700,000 has been donated to the High River Flood Relief Fund from sources large and small to help rebuild the town following the flood — one children’s lemonade stand north of Edmonton donated $160 while a Heartland fundraiser contributed $65,000 to the cause.
The Community Donation Advisory Committee (CDAC) will guide the use of the funds to help revitalize the community, with the intention of preserving transparency and the proper governance of the funds on behalf of the town.
Sharon McCormick of Poppy Innovations Ltd led the work to establish the committee on behalf of the Town. Read more on how the committee will aid the recovery of the community from the October 17 2013 article in the High River Times, New Donations Committee.
